Food Monitoring in Supermarkets Keep Being Tightened

The Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency continues to intensively monitor fresh food throughout supermarkets in Jakarta during the transitional large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).

It is a routine action to guarantee that food consumed is safe from harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, chlorine, pesticide residues and heavy metals.

"Our target is fresh food from agricultural, fishery and animal products," expressed Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Darjamuni, Wednesday (6/17).

KPKP Monitors Food Stock and Prices in Several Markets

He explained it was collaboration between his agency and supermarkets. Even, they intended to cover the costs of purchasing samples as laboratory test.

"And we cover the costs of testing the samples. Surely we really appreciate it," he exclaimed.

He continued the supermarket role was proof of food safety for the citizens and is a shared responsibility.

"Thank you for this collaboration, our hope is you support us in ensuring safe and quality fresh food trade in Jakarta," he uttered.

He asserted supermarkets which are based on the results of food sample testing until December 2020 are safe from hazardous chemicals would get a food safety certificate in accordance with the commodities sampled.

"By doing this, we want producers and consumers to increasingly realize the importance of safe food consumption for health," he stated.

As for the information, fresh food samples taken from monitoring activities are rice, beef, chicken meat, chicken eggs, garlic, onion, big red chili, red cayenne pepper, curly red chili, green cayenne, potato, carrot, leek, imported grapes, apples, oranges, salted fish, fresh fish, processed fish and processed animal products.

Then supermarkets that will be routinely monitored are Lotte, Giant, Hypermart, Tip Top, Lulu, Naga, Fresh Food Mart, Hero, Primo, Hari Hari, Grand Lucky and Diamond.
